After completion of his dental degree, Dr. Knowlton moved on to Toronto where he completed a one-year dental residency at Mount Sinai Hospital. Upon completion of the residency, Dr. Knowlton took advantage of the opportunity to practice dentistry in his hometown of Medicine Hat, Alberta. For the following three years, Dr. Knowlton practiced all facets of general dentistry, with a particular focus on treating children. It was during his time as a general dentist that Dr. Knowlton discovered his passion for orthodontics.
Dr. Knowlton gained acceptance into the University of Toronto’s Graduate Orthodontic program where he completed his MSc. Next, he took his Royal College of Dentists Fellowship exams and decided to move his young family back to Nova Scotia to settle down.
