Dr. Donald Johnston
Dr. Donald E. Johnston has been practicing orthodontics for more than 20 years. He is a second-generation orthodontist, having grown up with orthodontics as a part of his life. As a child, Dr. Johnston witnessed how much patients appreciate their orthodontic treatment and the difference it makes in their lives, inspiring him to pursue orthodontics as a profession. He thrives on the time spent with his patients, and enjoys getting to know each individual as a person.
Treatment Coordinator/Accounts Manager
Shelley joined the team of TA Orthodontics in 2005, as treatment coordinator and accounts manager. She provides both patients and parents with the information needed regarding treatment options, fees and flexible payment plans. Her professional demeanour and organization are well respected by both her colleagues and patients. In her spare time, she enjoys walking her dog Abby, travelling and spending quality time with family and friends.
Graduating from NSIT in 1978, Peggy has enjoyed working as an orthodontic assistant for the last 28 years, working with Dr. Johnston for the past five years. She enjoys working with the patients doing records before treatment and at the end. She thinks their smiling face makes it all worth while on the day their braces come off. Peggy says having such a great staff to work with at TA Orthodontics makes coming to work easy. Peggy also enjoys spending time with her two granddaughters, collecting snowman decorations and visiting her family cabin in Cape Breton.
Patty graduated from the Dalhousie School of Dental Hygiene in 1984. After graduation, Patty worked in general practice for many years and joined the team at TA Orthodontics in 2002. Patty is the former coordinator for the NS Dental Hygiene Resource Center. She currently is a volunteer with the Fluoride Mouth Rinse program at local elementary schools. Patty enjoys cooking, fitness, yoga, travelling, walking her dogs and spending time with her family.
Joan has been a Registered Dental Assistant since 1970 and was welcomed by Dr. Johnston’s staff in 2009. Joan is continually impressed with the treatment that patients receive at TA Orthodontics from start to finish, and no matter how detailed the case, the results are always amazing! She finds it a pleasure to be part of a team that maintains a family-like atmosphere that is supportive, professional and fun! Joan resides in Truro with her husband of forty-two years, and has four children, three grandchildren and two great-grandsons. In her free time, she enjoys photography and rug-hooking.
Haley graduated from the Dalhousie School of Dental Hygiene in 2009, and began her career at TA Orthodontics that same year. Haley also practices part-time at a general dental office, and is chair of the Northern Nova Scotia Dental Hygiene Study Club. As a teenager, Haley had orthodontic treatment by Dr. Johnston and was treated by the same team she now works alongside! She enjoys her time at TA Orthodontics, by getting to know her patients and making them feel comfortable. She is proud to be a part of such a hardworking team! Haley enjoys cooking, decorating, travelling, and spending time with her family.
Yolanda graduated from the Dalhousie School of Dental Hygiene in 1978, and started her career in orthodontics with Dr. Byron Johnston. She has been working with Dr. Donald Johnston since 1991. Her years of expertise make her an invaluable member of the hygiene team! Yolanda has been actively involved in the hygienist’s association, as a past executive member. She is the current treasurer for the Northern NS Dental Hygiene Study Club. Yolanda enjoys reading, puzzles, hockey games and spending time with her family and dog Misty.
