Meet Dr. Hadi Daia

Dr. Hadi Daia, DDS, MS, FRCD (C), was awarded his Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) in 2005. After practicing general dentistry, Dr. Daia took a hiatus to study temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ) and orofacial pain, with a concentration in headaches and migraines. He completed a residency at the University at Buffalo, where he earned his Master’s Degree in Oral Sciences.

Dr. Hadi Daia published a book titled, "Low Level Laser Therapy for Management of Temporomandibular Disorders." He then completed another residency in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics at the University at Buffalo. Dr. Daia was granted a diplomate status with the American Board of Orthodontics, American Board of Orofacial Pain and a fellowship status with the Royal College of Dentists of Canada in the specialty of Orthodontics.

Dr. Hadi Daia is one of the few doctors in the world to attain this level of commitment, expertise, knowledge, and excellence in this field. He has traveled internationally and studied new treatment modalities for orthognathic surgery, sleep medicine, and rare conditions like burning mouth syndrome. He has professionally served in several non-profit organizations and led efforts to help resettling populations in need, and professionally volunteered in search and rescue. Dr. Daia actively provides community education on the environment, nature and wildlife.

Q&A with Dr. Daia


Q: How many years have you been practicing Orthodontics?

A: Dr. Daia completed his general dentistry training in 2005 but felt the need for a comprehensive understanding of the neuromuscular complex of the teeth and facial orthopedics. He earned a Master of Oral Sciences from the University of Buffalo in 2010, with advanced training in temporomandibular disorders, and orofacial pain. In 2011, he completed a clinical trial in advanced technologies, publishing his findings, then went on to complete his residency program in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics at the University of Buffalo in 2014.

Q: Why do you love being in orthodontics?

A: As an artist and philanthropist, orthodontics gives Dr. Daia the unique opportunity to capture his affinity for both aesthetics and being of service to his community. He enjoys educating patients on applicable therapies for pain management so they may enact powerful, healthy changes in their lives.

Q: What is your greatest accomplishment in your work life?

A: Dr. Daia’s greatest accomplishment and true mission and passion is to continue an endless journey of growth and education so that he may continue serving his community. To be able to resolve pain and help people in need through orthodontics, philanthropy, and community education—to maintain this level of commitment is his true life’s calling. He is proud to have helped create many beautiful, healthy smiles on Prince Edward Island and enjoys building meaningful relationships with his patients.

Q: What's the most important factor in providing excellent patient care?

A: Dr. Daia believes in providing state-of-the-art orthodontic and orthopedic care using innovative, modern-day technology to create personalized, beautiful, pain-free smiles. We believe in service first, ensuring our patients feel their issues are represented and addressed and above all, corrected, to promote a healthy lifestyle.

Q: What's the most important factor in successful teamwork?

Communication and mutuality are required for effective teamwork; our staff is united in our mission to provide state-of-the-art care to every patient that walks through our doors.

Q: What's your favorite way to make a patient smile?

A: Sometimes, we get kids and adults that are anxious about treatment. Dr. Daia and our team instantly comfort them, providing them with the necessary education in the funniest ways possible. Perform the needed procedures painlessly. Patients end up laughing at how easy the process was and that it went much easier than they anticipated. Our assistants and administrators know our patients by name and welcome them warmly at every appointment; this is what sets us apart from other offices.

Q: What is your favorite way to get involved in your local community?

A: Providing education to the community at large is one of Dr. Daia’s favorite ways to give back. Dr. Daia recently presented at a local high school’s career day, and it was so much fun explaining our day-to-day responsibilities of running a successful orthodontic practice and what exactly goes under the umbrella of “orthodontics,” taking a deeper dive into issues involving the TMJ, sleep apnea, and orofacial pain.
Additionally, Dr. Daia enjoys participating with Smiles 4 Canada, a nonprofit organization dedicated to working with orthodontists in delivering orthodontic treatment to children in need. The best gift is a beautiful, functional, healthy bite.
Dr. Daia serves on the executive board of directors of a few non-profit organizations and is on the advisory board of Docbraces.

Q: What hobbies do you have when you are not creating beautiful smiles?

A: Dr. Daia is also leading key philanthropic and educational efforts in the community. His many years in search and rescue made him a gifted outdoorsman and survivalist. He is passionate about art, nature, and wildlife, and enjoys traveling the world to explore its many cultures and continue his endless learning journey.
